We have had this tub for about a year with relatively little use. Today I’ve experienced the same problem with the drain that many others have reported. Basically I saw the tub wasn’t filling. When I checked the drain, I found the stopper wasn’t closed tightly. As I tried to close it, the whole thing popped up. I’ve always found the stopper a clumsy design and now this happened. As others have said, at this price point, you expect way better. Come on Kohler!!

Bad drain design!

I usually don't write reviews but after reading the reviews for this tub I wanted to add my perspective because I don't want others to miss out on this great tub. I love it so much.

We installed this tub as part of a bathroom remodel in the fall of 2019. It's a beautiful tub, feels smooth and substantial to the touch and the lithocast keeps a hot, cozy bath for a long time. It's very deep but doesn't take up a lot of space so a great elegant choice if your bathroom isn't huge.

I have used the tub at least once a week since we got it. We do not have the issues the other reviewers mentioned with the drain:
 - it works great, the mechanism needs to be pushed down firmly but once engaged, it stays down and keeps all the water in. It's so nice because it's completely unobtrusive when you're in the bath. I have not had it accidentally pop up and I do move around quite a bit rinsing my hair, shaving my legs, etc.
 - water drains completely and quickly once the drain is opened. I do not experience any leftover water or puddles in the tub once drained.

This tub is heavy! It's not as heavy as a cast iron, but it took a few men to carry it to my upstairs bathroom and the stairwell maneuver was a little scary to watch lol.

I have been a Kohler customer for 20+ years, 8 bathroom remodels and 3 kitchens. For any items that I have purchased and shipped directly from Kohler, we've not had a single item arrive broken (that's 8(!) toilets and so many sinks). I've had 2 faucet issues (on a very expensive kitchen faucet) and they have stood behind their lifetime warranty and replaced the faucet entirely. My interactions with Kohler customer service have overall been great - I once ordered the incorrect part and they helped me figure out which was the right one and we got it exchanged at no addl cost, as well as the faucet issue mentioned above. They are good on the phone and over email. I did not have any issues where the notes from my phone calls were not captured but if that's a concern, I would suggest that you email them. I always got a response to email within a day and you'll have a written trail to reference.

They did discontinue my oddly shaped kitchen sink, so I would be more careful next time before I choose something non-standard that is then carved in stone (in the form of my granite counter cutout). When the poor installation warped the sink, it was a difficult problem to solve since I couldn't get a replacement from Kohler.
 
Kohler is a great company, you can pop over to their factory in Wisconsin where they actually make so many of their products, stay in their hotels, eat at their wonderful restaurants and golf on their courses :)

Love this tub!

We purchased of these in 2018 during a bathroom remodel.  Within 1 month, we started experiencing issues with the center drain plunger; it easily popped up, opening the drain and hot bath water would very quickly drain out of the tub.  There is a flimsy spring inside the drain plunger mechanism that breaks VERY easily.  I contacted Kohler customer service and they immediately sent out a replacement part, which my husband easily installed and it fixed our issue.  I wash Kohler would use more metal/brass to construct their internal mechanisms of the products.  For the expense of this tub, you’d expect better quality.

Gorgeous tub that keeps water warm, but Drain design is defective

The Kohler Ceric tub was installed by our contractor 9 months ago.  The push and pull stopper has quit working. The Kohler material that the contractor left doesn't show how to remove the cover so I go to their website looking for information.  Of course I notice the overall rating of 1 star.  A total of 3 reviews; two with the same problem as mine.   We are also having problems with the kohler san souci toilet installed.  It will not stop running after it is flushed.  At this point, I am not a fan of Kohler and am happy that I did not purchase any of their faucets.  Seriously, a $6 drain from a hardware store will last you 20 years.

This is a beautiful and comfortable tub; however, we cannot get the drain to work.  It won't stay down so we can't fill the tub.  We had a plumber come and look at it and he couldn't get it to work.  We got a replacement drain and couldn't get that to work.  The drain mechanism is flimsy and flawed by design.  It also relies on a small pin that clicks into place to hold the drain closed.  When trying to get the drain to work, this pin can easily fall out and go down the drain.  Its unbelievably frustrating for a tub of this cost.  This is on top of an online order in which we had the following (two toilets delivered broken - as in demolished - two sinks delivered damaged, a faucet delivered with no knobs and a shower head that couldn't be installed).  Dealing with customer service over the phone is also a nightmare so in the reply please don't ask me to reach out to them as they never have any history of previous calls, whats being going on, etc.

Can't get drain to work

We purchased this tub as part of our bathroom renovation.  It is a beautiful looking tub and with Kohler as the manufacturer I was confident it would be perfect.  It is far from perfect and in fact the puddle design is defective.  The first puddle stopped working and had to be replaced quickly.  The replacement also does not work - the puddle is in the center of the bath and is big, it only takes a small amount of pressure to release it by accident (very easy to do).  It is then a fight to try and get it back in to stop all the water draining out.  Sometimes it works but water still seems to drain out and sometimes it does not work and you lose all the water.  The only good design is the fact that water drains out quickly. It is a real shame as the tub itself looks good in the room.  I am really disappointed given the cost.

Puddle design is defective

This tub doesn’t drain properly!  I Installed this tub according to installation instructions and tested it with a small amount of water. There is a mid sized puddle, approximately 14 inches x 12 inches, left all around the drain at the bottom of the tub every time water is put in the tub. I double checked to make sure the tub was level. It was. This tells me that A) The bottom of the tub, by design, doesn’t have enough of a slope to drain properly or B) Something went wrong in the manufacturing process and the bottom of the tub is warped 
and allows the water to puddle. Either way,  the bottom line is that I’m out a large sum of money for a tub that doesn’t drain and needs to me mopped up every time it’s used.
